Mechanical

Services — Building Services Engineers (13)

Mechanical services provide comfort through temperature, humidity, and velocity with fresh air to the users of a space, while extracting (exhaust) toxic or hazardous fumes.

Systems are designed to provide air distribution and filtration, heating, and cooling to the specific and often unique aspects of the building or space. Comfort may be controlled through sensor inputs into the building management system (BMS), thorough individual zones, or by in room systems such as split systems.

During design, our team consider architectural design factors like building direction and windows, client and project partner priorities, budget allowances, efficiency, and sustainability.

Electrical

Electrical services provide reliable and safe electrical infrastructure and power distribution, for public spaces, facilities, buildings, tenanted spaces, transport, and distribution networks.

Systems are designed to provide reliability and safety of power supply, while considering useability and efficiency.

During design, our team consider relevant standards, best practice and sustainability to deliver outcomes that meet the clients requirements while reducing energy consumption and associated greenhouse emissions. Runnings costs are examined to balance the ‘invisible functionality’ demanded from users of building or space with sustainability.

Hydraulic

Services — Building Services Engineers (15)

Hydraulic services provide pressure services (potable water, heated water, non-potable water, rainwater re-use, LPG and natural gas), wastewater systems (sanitary plumbing and drainage, trade waste and grey water) and stormwater drainage systems.

Systems are designed to address the specific needs of different spaces and buildings which can improve system efficiency, minimise water and energy use and the overall services impact on developments and capital cost.

During design, our team consider installation methods, latest technologies, current Australian Standards and Authority requirements.

Communication

Services — Building Services Engineers (16)

(Video) A Day in the Life of a Building Services Engineer

Information and Communications Technology services provide solutions that provide connectivity for systems and people for voice, data, and technology: networks – physical and cloud, fibre and NBN, LAN, passive and active equipment, antenna and mobile system planning.

Systems are designed to balance up to date trends with proven solutions, while providing flexibility, maintainability and minimal downtime. A strong backbone infrastructure and modular approach gives flexibility for future growth and change.

During design, our team consider existing or legacy technology, opportunities for reuse or integration and all aspects of connectivity, installation, storage, power monitoring and upgrades.

Lighting

Services — Building Services Engineers (17)

Lighting services provide solutions that consider daylight, night and architectural requirements to provide solutions which can breathe life into a space, using contrast and highlights to make a statement. Good lighting can enhance architecture, natural features and provide excellent user experience.

Systems are designed to provide adequate and safe lighting at minimum, to enhanced creative solutions that highlight architectural features of an internal or external space.

During design, our team consider architectural design intent of the space, Australian Standards, latest luminaire and controls technology, efficiency and ease of use.

Fire

Services — Building Services Engineers (18)

Fire protection and fire services provide solutions to minimise the risk and impact of fire. Systems are designed to meet the unique requirement of each building or space across fire hydrants and hose reels, suppression systems, detection and alarm systems, emergency warning and intercommunication, portable extinguishers and smoke hazard management. Alternative solutions may be available for building code compliance.

Systems are designed to prepare and protect occupants of the space and emergency services personnel, protect the facility in case of fire and mitigate damage to structure, equipment, fabric and building contents all while limiting the emission of chemicals.

During design, our team consider best practice international, national, and local statutory codes and standards, and risk management approach to ensure solutions provided keep occupants safe while working with the design intent of the space. BSE have accredited practitioners for the design and certification of fire protection systems.

Sustainability

Sustainable design considers resource efficiency, prioritises lowering lifetime operational costs and minimising maintenance requirements. Generally motivated to benefit and protect the environment, while considering legislative requirements such as energy efficiency targets, policy and frameworks, this approach to design considers the adequate useability of spaces as well as the amenity. Interplay of daylight and the impact on energy consumption, water consumption, the level and cost of insulation, potential for thermal passive performance and adequate selection of double-glazing and façade product. Priority is to reduce a building or spaces impact on the environment, though reducing greenhouse gas emissions and potable water savings, while considering strategies to improve the health and wellbeing of users (occupants and visitors) of the space.

Our team offers ecologically sustainable development (ESD) consultancy and advice on initiatives for clients and project partners to consider based on their priorities. Outputs maybe tools and approaches to take advantage of sustainable solutions, concepts, modelling and guidance, across energy (solar power, solar hot water, LED lighting, lighting control, insulation and thermal mass, glazing and shading and reflective foil), water (landscaping and rain water, efficient fixtures and fittings) and wellness (air, nourishment, fitness, natural light, comfort and plants). To address government regulations and National Construction Code requirements around energy, alternative solutions through JV3 modelling are provided with standards and external certification services availability to LEED, Greenstar, NABERS, WELL standards.

Audio Visual

Services — Building Services Engineers (20)

(Video) Building Services Engineering

Audio-visual design provides solutions which address our clients requirements with latest and proven technology and software solutions. The ever-changing complexities and challenges of office workplaces require solutions that utilise knowledge that achieves cost effective and client focused solutions.

Systems are designed to provide effective and user-friendly audio-visual solutions which positively impact communication, collaboration, contribute to a positive team member experience and align with the organisation’s strategy.

During design, our team consider architectural design and purpose of the design and spaces, common risks and hurdles usually associated with AV deployments, latest industry technology and user readiness.

Acoustics

Services — Building Services Engineers (21)

Acoustics provide solutions which make an office or building or space or site functional for occupants and neighbours, considering the control of noise in buildings, minimising transmission of noise between spaces and the characteristics of sound within a space. Depending on the specifics of the scope,

Acoustics as part of design, construction and operations can provide acoustic design input for architectural design, individual and shared room acoustics, mechanical and building services noise control, whole building and façade acoustic design, vibration and environmental noise assessment and testing.

During design or scope works, our team consider Building Code and Australian Standards requirements, design intent and client requirements.

Lifts

Services — Building Services Engineers (22)

Vertical transportation services provide for lifts or elevators to building users which meet the safety and productivity requirements of the building and provide a positive movement experience for users.

Systems are designed to consider detailed traffic analysis to provide optimum efficiency for the available budget and space, integrate with other systems within the building such as access control CCTV and fire protection while utilising the latest technology to minimise required headroom, pits and place space for the lift, elevator, turntable, leveller, escalators, and travellators.

During design, our team consider the traffic analysis, other services requirements, Australian Standards and Building Code requirements as well as the key areas of reliability, maintainability, ease of use, reduced wait times and safety.
